Experience with multiple game engines is a plus, but not essential.
Film and/or VFX experience is a plus, but not essential.

Who we are:

We know that to achieve those goals, we need courage, talented people and a great working environment – and we do our utmost to have all of that. Across our multiple studios, we’re working on several projects. Crucially though, we’re all one team. About the role:
Our team in Malmö is preparing for their next project: a 3D game in a stylized art style, and we are looking for an Art Director to join them on their journey! As the art team will be on the smaller side, this will be a hands-on kind of position where you will still have time to be involved in creating your own art. You will also be responsible for creating the artistic vision for the game and working closely with the rest of the art team to ensure they reach the expected artistic quality and keep it within the established art style. You will be working with our producer, director, and leads to ensure that the art direction fits the overall project goals.

This is a full-time position working from our Malmö office.

Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for the artistic vision of the game.
- Owning the Art Bible documentation and ensuring that it is always up to date.
- Provide direction and feedback to the team to further the artistic vision.
- Regularly reviewing the visual quality of the produced work and supporting and guiding the team to achieve the visual target of the game.
- Provide clear written and illustrated guidelines that communicate art vision to internal and external teams.

Who are you?:
We believe you have worked in game production for several years and are skilled in concept and/or illustration art to succeed in this role. If you also have basic 3D knowledge and understanding, that is a big bonus for us but certainly not a requirement. Since you will be creating our art bible for the project, experience in that type of work is highly valued, as is a mindset of cooperation and a calm and collected spirit that isn't rattled by shifting priorities. We have an international team so being comfortable communicating in English is a must.

What do we offer?
- Collective Agreement - Tekniktjänsteavtalet (+ union club) - Pension plan (tjänstepension)
- Paid overtime

- Flexible work hours
- Yearly wellness grant (friskvårdsbidrag)
- Occupational Health Care
- Two hours per week for wellness activities

About the company:
Thunderful is a relatively new company but with old roots. It was formed by several small indie companies coming together to make something more significant than they could have done independently. Over the last few years, Thunderful has grown into four different offices, with roughly 120 people making games in team sizes between 15 and 35 people.

The teams within have developed the award-winning SteamWorld series, known for its frequent genre-hopping and inclusive design, and more recent AA games like The Gunk, Lost in Random, and other un-announced but equally charming titles.

About the Malmö Office
Thunderful have come to Malmö to stay! We are looking for talented, friendly, and highly creative people with all kinds of backgrounds & perspectives to build the best games possible - and have a blast while doing so! We will keep the good parts of a smaller studio while expanding.

The Office is located at the wonderful Devhub, an environment filled with game companies & indie developers. And outside the building, you'll find more pubs and restaurants per capita than anywhere else in Sweden. So finding a good lunch is easy as pie.

In this role, you will work closely with other artists, designers, programmers, and many other disciplines to take the game to the next level. You will be instrumental in developing new tools, processes and techniques to empower designers and artists to create great new content. As a Lead Technical Artist you will wear many hats; work closely with the Art Director to support the artistic vision; be a detective and figure out solutions to tricky technical challenges; a communicator that gathers all the necessary people to solve a problem that has been found. You will also support other technical artists in your team with feedback, mentorship, and knowledge.

Responsibilities:
- Work together with the Art Director to implement their artistic vision while respecting technical restrictions.
- Bridge the gap between programmers and artists.
- Optimizing the game together with programmers and content creators.
- Oversee the development of tools and pipelines that are needed by various departments to produce content for the game.
- Assist other departments when planning and features/designs to avoid problems caused by technical restrictions.

Requirements:
- Shipped at least two previous games.
- Great organizational skills. You will plan the work for the department and make sure that we are working on the right things.
- Exceptional communication skills. You will be working closely with your team and with other departments.
- Great problem-solving and prototyping abilities. You will face tasks and requests that are not clearly defined and work together with other departments to figure out what you can achieve and how best to achieve it.
- Look out for potential risks to the project or the team and raise those risks to stakeholders.
- Experience with mentoring other technical artists. You will provide meaningful feedback to other technical artists on how to improve themselves and their processes going forward. You will also enable and support them by making sure that they have everything they need to solve their tasks.

Bonus points:
- Experience with procedural content creation.
- Programming/scripting experience with Python, MEL, C#, C++.
- Experience with shader creation.
- Experience with Unreal Engine.

Location of Role
This is a permanent position based in Malmö, Sweden, and is open to all applicants with the intention to relocate as soon as possible.

Sharkmob is looking for a Senior Technical Artist!

Are you that bridge betwixt code and art? Are you fluent in ones and zeros and can translate that to “designerspeak”? Do you have that creative spark that allows you to create tools that save countless artists’ lives (or maybe save them a few seconds every time they click on that one button)? Then you might be the person we are looking for!

You will work closely with artists, designers, programmers, and many other disciplines in this role. Like a spider sitting in their web, you will be connected to everything and everyone. You will sit together with an Art Director, telling them what they can and cannot do with regards to technical implementations. And when they tell you that they really want it anyway, you’ll be the one to conduct RnD and see if we actually can do it, even though reason tells you we should not.

We’ll stick a magnifying glass in your hand and tell you that you’re now Sherlock Holmes because you’ll be tracking down performance issues like a master detective. Guiding and mentoring other tech artist as well as the art department will become your second nature. But you must also be strict because they will test you and try to sneak in poorly optimized asset, and it is up to you how you choose to help them.

If that wasn’t enough, you’ll get six weeks of paid vacation and you get to work on a game with vampires. After all that, we know what you are thinking... “When can I sign?” Woah, slow down there, reach out to us and we’ll schedule an interview to see if we can match that fantastic energy of yours.

Your essentials
- Experience with mentoring other technical artists. You will provide feedback to other technical artists on how to grow and improve their processes as we advance. You will also enable and support them by making sure that they have everything they need to solve their tasks.
- Shipped at least one previous AAA title.
- Excellent communication skills as you will be working closely with your team and with other departments.
- Strong problem-solving and prototyping abilities. You will face tasks and requests that are not clearly defined and work together with other departments to figure out what you can achieve and how best to achieve it.
- A true team player since a large part of our job is solving problems for others, and you need to be able to support artists/designers with their work.

All the best!
